This is a project, and design, that I got from fellow LJ justahobby2. I contacted him after seeing his project post and he was kind enough to share his image template that he used to create it. In our contact we discovered we have kids with similar musical interests.

I made this one from some scraps of another project currently in the works. That backer board for this treble clef is made from Red Gum. My local lumber yard posts project pictures on their FaceBook sent in by customers and I saw one made from Red Gum. I had never heard of it or seen it before so I went and checked it out. Beautiful stuff, but the finish on this project doesn’t really do it justice. I just couldn’t get a good picture either. The treble clef itself is made of curly maple. I cut out the captive portions with a jig saw and the remaining outside with the band saw. Sanding cleanup was mostly by hand with rasps, files, and hand sanding.

The tight inside curves are still not as clean as I would like but I could not get to them all. The cut out is attached to the backer with screws from the back. The holes are a little oversize in case it wants to move. There is also a picture hangar wire on the back to hang it on the wall. It is finished with 3 or 4 coats of satin spray lacquer.

This will be a surprise gift for my daughter because she loves music.

That is very cute. My wife has been thinking about a gift for a musician. I’ll forward this to her.
Thanks
