Project Information

Another one of my tissue boxes with a place to hide a few small things. It also has my special safety latch so the cover won't separate from the base accidentally.

We don't have any children living with us so I can keep a small fire arm in the box if I choose. If you have children your weapon should be secured in a safe.

The box is made of cherry with walnut splines. This is a video of how the latch works.

Very cool. What did you use for (or where did you find) the spring loaded pin?

That'a ingenious, Tony. But, can you do it quickly, with one hand?

Thanks for the links Tony. Another LJ project to try to copy.

A couple more Q's if I can,

- I guess you have another washer at the end with the spring loaded pin?
- I assume you used the foam so it is light / quiet / soft on contents, or is there another functional reason?
- what keeps the tissue box suspended?

Thanks!

Thank you Jim, Socrbend and unclearthur

@ unclearthur … I'll add a few photo to help you with you questions.

Washer bought at HD's #8s

.

.

.

I drill the hole 3/4" from end in the 5/8"x 2 3/16"L dowels, tap the hole with 1/4 20 tap then insert the spring pin and screw the pin into the dowels then I drill a hole in the base 9/16" from the edge to except the dowels. Then I take a (box side) one at a time and press it up against the pin to mark where the washer will be placed. Then I recess counter sink the washer flush with the box and then drill in the center of the washer just enough for the (spring pin) to go in about half way; i used CA glue to glue the washer in then I assemble the box. I glue the dowel post in later that way I can move the down if I need to make an adjustment.

Neat idea 'shaver'C, and neat boxes as well.
.... also has my special safety latch so the cover won t separate from the base accidentally….
- woodshaver Tony C
Good idea, otherwise you'd be walking around with a string of pearls dribbling from your honkers… and as for the NRA, protection for those that might accidentally shoot their mouths off.

Thanks AJ and LittleBlackDuck,

LittleBlackDuck, I had to give the pearls back to the wife so I guess they won't be dribbling from my honkers any time soon. I was thinking of just keeping just one tissue in the box for a good excuse to open the box in the case of an unexpected incident.
