Chess Board with Drawer

This chessboard is based off of a design from Volume 22 / Number 132 (December 2000) of a Woodsmith magazine. I changed the squares to 2-1/4ā€. Made of walnut and hard maple. I made the inlay myself. The dark stripes in it are a rosewood veneer. I chose the rosewood because its what I had laying around. I donated this project for a dinner auction that benefited my kids school. I did not make the pieces…Iā€™m not much of a carver.

Very nice box Greg. Lucky you posted it here at LJ to get exposure.

In a real game the winner would be too busy bragging and looking for his own back to pat to appreciate it and the loser’s tear filled eyes wouldn’t be able to focus on it!

Greg, that is a beautiful, well crafted and most attractive chess board.

Nice build!

Thank you all for the compliments. I think the most satisfying part of the entire project was getting the bullet latches to line up on the first try. There is one one each side of the drawer since it slides both ways.

Well done. Lines look perfect. I made a chess board as part of a multiple game table. I understand the challenges. Nice touch on the drawer.
