Have a look at this Shaker Style Coffee Table with Storage that I recently built in my latest build video. In my 2 part series I show the steps of creating the top with segmented center and bread board ends as well as building the carcass and a drawer big enough to hold all my blankets.

This project has been in the works, design-wise, for quite some time. Though it is a simple design and not original, I wanted to create something for my needs but still have that elegant look and craftsmanship that I desire. The segmented center (Walnut, Maple, and Padauk) was put there as an accent to give the table a pop of color and by its definition an accent or eye drawing feature. The breadboard ends were a happy accent to fix cupping that occurred. The joinery method for the rails is a combination of mortise and tenons as well as dowel joinery. The majority of the table was made from rough sawn 8/4 Walnut, surfaced in my shop. The shelf and center panels are from 1/4” and 3/4” walnut plywood. The table measures in at 44” x 28” x 18”

Very nice work! That was a great recovery on the cupped top. You ended up with a much better design and a table that can handle seasonal changes well. Great Job!!

Thanks for sharing.

I like that classic design. Stripes on top are the top!
