I started in the morning at a turning class with a stump, bark on, and not even completely dry. I worked on a Jet lathe portable for most of the day and ended up with this. I should put more hickory oil and beeswax on since the first treatment has worn off, but life’s been busy.

I have yet to try out my husband’s lathe, but he enjoys the process you described – starting out with a section of wood and after “a while” at the lathe, a bowl or vase or some other item “appears.” Do you know what kind of wood it is?

Best I remember, it was alder. I made it last July while on vacation in Vermont.
