I’ve been planning this design for a while. The spring swap 2019 aka spring surprise swap 2019 was the perfect chance to get it done. I patterned it after a Fender Stratocaster silhouette. The strings are an inlay of a low melting point (158F) alloy. I cut groves with a 1/16” router bit, melted the alloy into them, and sanded flat. I was able to use a heat gun to melt the alloy so I didn’t burn the wood. It took several attempts but I was happy with the results. The box is about 9×6 x 2 overall. The box is walnut with ebony splines and a dyed plywood bottom. The finish is sprayed shellac.

Nice personalized touch on the box lid. Clever way to make the lid handle as well.

Tom, WOW! Nicely done and so creative!!! Can’t wait to hear the run down how you melted the alloy to the grooves! Steve says BAD ASS :)) What an incredibly unique design – love it!!
