The first bowl of my new mini-lathe. The blank was a glue-up of two 1-1/2 inch thick boards. The groove on the O.D. obscures the glue line. Finish is bees wax. Several disastrous-seeming tearouts only slightly reduced the final size.

That was a nice result on wood that is difficult to turn due to the softness and easy endgrain tearing.

The technique of adding a decorative “groove” is something I have used and it works well.
