This started as one table for a friend, then ended up as two. One for her and one for me. This was all about learning how to do half-blind dovetails, making drawers, working with cherry, and using shellac for a finish. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

I finished these with four coats of shellac then a beeswax/orange oil blend.

I got all sucked in by the figured cherry that I used for the skirts and drawer front. It ended up really wanting to split and chip. I’m not sure about how interested I am in cutting tenons, mortises, or dovetails in it. But, I do have some more that I think will look good as the panel in a door. I’m thinking about making a small wall cupboard to use what I have left.

These are really nice side tables. I’m sure your friend really appreciated the one she received. Nice work!

Looks like a great job and a good piece considering it was practice for all those things you mentioned! Now on to bigger things now that you’ve learnt how to do it eh?

Have your say...
