A Breadbox

A breadbox. More or less a traditional design, I think, with the spline and strange handle improvised to add a little life to it.

Maple door and bottom, with walnut lid, cherry sides and plywood back. A regular box turned 90 degrees basically.

I used these hidden hinge pins from Lee Valley which are nice as they make the door easily removable.

Very eye catching. Like the front panel – the spline and unique handle are nice features. Could you share what finish you used?

Just Danish oil. I don’t think the box will take much abuse.

Somehow I got the link wrong for the hinge pins.
Proper link is here.

I don’t think anyone uses a bread storage box anymore but I would never turn down a good gift though. The only thing is that I would personally use it for a greater purpose than bread. Its outlook is way too beautiful for basic gluten.
