It’s true when they say that if you wait long enough, the wood will tell you want it wants to be. Had this piece in the garage for a few months and decided it needed to be a wooden bank for my son’s birthday. It’s about 1.75” thick, which was slightly thinner than I had wanted. But that just means he can’t put any of the older dollar coins in it.

Found the template online and used MS paint to print it larger. Cut it out on the bandsaw and then discovered how much fun it was to sand all those little crevices. Did the best I could in between the legs. Finished it with two coats of Minwax wipe-on poly. Not 100% sold on the plastic that I used, but for now it works. I’d like to think that hopefully my son will like it and keep it forever. But for now, it lost out to the Transformers and matchbox cars he received as well. lol

Thanks for looking and feel free to add any comments or questions.

Love the idea! In the unfortunate event that your son decides to withdraw his funds, do you just unscrew the plastic, or is there some other “release” mechanism that I don’t see?

My son only sees cars and trucks right now, so all the best gifts are invisible to him in their presence. I’m sure your son will come back to this treasure in time.

I saw something similar like this selling online and I didn’t think about actually going to go and make one of my own! This is really a great way to customise a little piggy bank for storage of their pocket money for the kids!
