Hey Lumberjocks,
Just wanted to share the latest project. This is a ceiling mounted base that a chandelier or light fixture will hang from. The wood is a type of Walnut I purchased at a garage sale, so I don’t really know the history. I planed and jointed each board and joined them together, biscuits added. At that point I surfaced planed the 30” x 30” assembly with my homemade router planer. I then sanded through the progression to 320 grit. At this stage I built an adjustable double pivoting oval/elliptical router fixture. (Thanks Izzy Swan.) I installed a 3/8” router bit and made my first pass with this adjustable elliptical router fixture. Then I added a 3/4” spacer board and made another pass. Repeat 18 times. Rotate the board and repeat. Rotate the board and repeat. Since the arc is an ellipse (constantly increase radius), the groups of lines diverge as they move across board. Lots of texture on this project. If you look close you can see the cathedrals in the wood grain. Finished with Linseed Oil and Wipe on Poly.
Thanks for checking out the Ceiling light fixture made from Walnut
Greg

That is some clever routing but I am having trouble seeing that as a light fixture.

Correct, this item mounts to the ceiling and the light hangs from it. I’ll have pics when the requester installs it.

I’m sure that will be beautiful once installed. Can’t wait to see some final pics. I appreciate your description of the technique. Very cool idea.

-- Extra screws left over are just evidence I found a better way to put it together.
