The bluebirds were complaining

Here is a bird house I built for the bluebird to replace their old house. Several years ago, I can’t even remember how long, my Wife and I build a bird house. Just a small project and time in the shop together. I put it up and for years no bird would move into it. Then one day my Wife acquired some old small barn doors and I attached them where the T.V. dish had been. She like it and grows morning glory’s there. I topped it off with the bird house and a family of bluebirds moved in. As years passed, the little house got in bad shape.

The roof was cracked and leaked, it was just bad. The birds have been coming back to check on their home and I could almost hear them say, ”hey buddy, we need a new house”. Not wanting to be a bird house slum lord I build them a new one. I used log cabin style, notched all the “logs” and doweled the corners to make sure it won’t come apart. I made it to the same size as the last as I have read bluebirds are particular where they live. Never know it looking at the last house. LOL. I used no stain or any coating so the fumes don’t run them off. I’m going to let it age to match my Wifes display. A fun little project and I hope the bluebirds like it.

Jeff, Blue Birds built a nest in our box every spring. Not sure if you know they love meal worms.

That’s a great looking log cabin (vacation home) for the birds. I suppose I could make the IA birds an igloo with all of the snow. We get bluebirds around here later in the spring and summer.

That turned out great Jeff. Your birds will probably be afraid to move in.

Thanks for the comments everyone! Earl. I don’t think ours fly south. They been checking in from time to time all winter! Nathan, I hope they are not scared! Dave P. No, I think I’ll leave the rent the same. After living in the old one, they deserve a break. Ivan, I used titebond to hold it together and drilled and run dowels to lock the corners and around the hole.crowie, I hope they are and DO come back. Dutchy, Glad you like my yard. Tough to keep nice in the summer. Desert, Glad you like both. Again, thanks everyone!
