My family did secret Santa this year, and I got my dad as a gift recipient. I know he likes to cook, and I had been seeing end grain cutting boards online for a while and decided to make one. Being he’s me dad, I knew it had to impress him and I wanted it to look nice, so off to the drawing boards I went. I have not acquired all the tools I’d like to have, so making this was a bit of a challenge, but I think I did a decent job. I used 8/4 walnut, purple heart and yellow heart with titebond III, planed it down (after gluing edging so as to not destroy the outer pieces) and routed out finger holds and rounded off the edges. Finished with food safe mineral oil and polished with bees wax butcher block stuff I found at Home Depot.

Nice board, especially for a first effort.
