Tapered juice groove on half of the cutting board

With the little kitchen experience I have, I feel a juice groove on a cutting board is a good idea at times, it certainly can be a hindrance also. Well, this is my creative solution and one can have the best of both worlds. A tapered juice groove only on half of the cutting board.

interesting concept. It LOOKS cool, too. I do a lot of cooking, can’t say that I’ve found having that groove to be a hindrance. Where do you find it to be a problem? Just curious.

I think the groove sometimes gets in the way when you’re trying to scrape chopped up stuff from the board into a bowl or pot or pan . . . .

Suppose you have a lot of tiny chopped up pieces and you try to push it out to a plate, the transaction isn’t smooth where the groove is compared to where these is no groove. Then you may have some pieces stuck inside the groove. Does that make sense?

Thanks. Well, in theory, the idea is to you use the groove side to cut/chop and capture most of the juices. By the nature of it, you should capture at least 3/4 of it. The tapered is to direct the juice to one side of the board. First time doing any juice grooves, so, not sure how much of a capacity it needs, but I think this should serve it’s purpose.


Beautiful work and nice looking. I just wonder, how are the juices directed to the groove vs just flowing over the side where the groove is absent? I also don t understand the ramp or taper. It certainly looks nice, but it diminishes the capacity the groove can hold.

Thanks. Used the CNC for this, but can be done with a custom jig as well.

Thanks. The Walnut came out looking amazing.

The cut corners ? I guess, since I phrased it like that, but that just for explanation purpose only.

By the “cut corners” I was referring to the 45 degree cut. I have only routered the corners of my boards so far. If I get a piece on a corner that turns out to have a flaw in it this will be a good way of correcting it. Great idea!
