A good friend gave me a beautiful boxelder blank for me to play with. Boy did I have a ball! I can’t wait for another boxelder log to fall in my lap again. I love the hint of red in the end grain. Of course I had to try out my new vacuum chuck I made just for special finishing tasks.

Thanks John. I know it gets a bad rap as a junk wood but it has its own intrinsic beauty.

Thanks John. Actually it sanded very easily, almost like a soft maple. Especially with my shop made disc sanders.

Thanks Dave, but I think the real credit needs to go to the Master Carpenter for the beauty of the wood.

That turned out fantastic! Love the colors and the way you finished off the bottom!

Thanks Lew. I couldn’t have finished the bottom like that without my new vacuum clutch.

Nice one Mike! The red splotches have an interesting pattern. And is that one of your bottles of wine in the background of the first pics?

Thanks Brian. Yes. My label is named for my passions for woodworking, bicycling (former passion since I can’t ride anymore) and winemaking. That one was this year’s Apple Cider Wine that surpassed my expectations.
