Hurricane Harvey replacement

Starting to re-build a family condo down in Port Aransas after Harvey blew through there and destroyed everything. I’m hoping to build some pieces that will be a little longer lasting than most of the ‘big store-bought’ furniture that will be furnishing other condos in the area. This is the first of it—a couple of bedside tables made of pecan/hickory. That drawer pull is walnut. I like the look of the open sides so we can see the ‘mechanics’ of the drawers. I’ve also seen what the coastal environment does to metal, so I have limited it to the tabletop fasteners. All of the joinery is half-lap, mortise and tenon, and dovetails. The pecan is tough, but I think the wildness of the grain can be beautiful. I have used a small amount of dye on the legs to blend in some sapwood that could not be avoided. There’s no stain—only General Finishes Arm-R-Seal. My goal is to complete two dressers to match, 4 headboards, and maybe a coffee table by the time we re-open sometime in early 2020.

Looks good. Good luck with the rebuild. Use to fish out of Port A years ago. Good times.
