Well this was my first commisioned work – I say that tongue in cheek as it was for my parents… But, it still counts :D
Just a simple swing gate for the side of their house where the trash bins are. The old one was some 30yrs old and looked like it! Nothing too fancy here, started out a low begining as a single 2×12x16 from HD.

Planed and jointed down and ready to join, with the Foremans help…aligned with biscuits.

Cut the curve by bending a scrap cutoff, then a simple to roundover…

Stabilized the ONE SINGLE KNOT (crazy, right?!) W epoxy…

For the braces I used the DP and chisel to make slots if you will on the supports to allow for movement of the face along them, and recessed even more to the areas that the hinges will go over. (I need more practice w hand tools, not as clean as I wouldve liked…but its a trash gate, c’mon!)

Bolts and hardware were just galvanized from HD as well, cut to size w the trusty angle grinder.

Then 3 coats BLO…

And finally about 6 coats of home made Spar wipe on.

Whenever I hang it w Dad I’ll try and post the final destination.

Thanks for taking a peek,

Jay
