I was inspired for this project by pashley’s (http://lumberjocks.com/projects/336289). Curly maple and curly walnut, and finished in Arm-R-Seal. I polished a carriage bolt and put it in the back side and hooked up a touch switch to it… no button pushing in the middle of the night!

I am happy to happily report the wife is happy!

For those interested, here is the touch sensor I added, https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F4Y3R7Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Looks great. I instantly clicked on this to see more pictures as I was thinking of the Fifth Element as well. Goal is to make a set of 4 and have them as lights like this.

Thanks for inspiration and sharing!

Would you comment about the purpose of these lamps. Can one read by them? Or are they more fora soft night light? What kind of electrical wiring/bulb sockets? i love the looks of these lamps and just wondering how much light they give off.

It is only just bright enough to read by. Main purpose is a soft night light. These are purposely low-light and angled downward, to prevent waking a spouse in the middle of the night. I would say they are as bright as a couple candles, but very directional. The lights I used were https://www.lowes.com/pd/Utilitech-3-Pack-2-66-in-Plug-in-Puck-Lights/1000086099 . The lights by themselves are much brighter outside the lamp bodies. The pucks are mounted on the bottom of the top with two screws for the key hole slides in the lamps, and a third screw acting as a stop in the direction of the slide. on the base there is mounted the touch sensor circuit I listed above. Cord was clipped and wired through the sensor. Black wires from sensor are wired to Neutral lines from source and to light… doesn’t matter which is which. Blue is hot to light, and red is hot from source. Yellow is mounted to a carriage bolt in the back of the lamp that I polished up.
