This is a little box I made for my sister about 15 years ago. when it’s closed it looks like the dove tails are on the sides and ends. I saw it in a library book many years ago. I can’t find the book anymore. This box is made out of walnut with a wax finish. I used a router to clean out the insides. If I remember, I started out with a square board and cut the shape after I was finished.

That’s a nice little box, Tom! I like the touch of making it look confusing by angling the dovetails.

I bet your sister put something pretty special in that cool little box! Looks confusing and interesting – I love it! :)

Love the angled dovetails! Might have to ‘borrow’ that idea Tom!

You could have kept a lot of us in suspense by not adding, it started square.

Still is a great outcome, planned or not.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the inspiration. I am going to attempt this with my Advanced Woodworking students. I am going to try cutting the dovetail groove on both pieces and gluing in a dovetailed spline to reduce the wasted material produced by milling the key from the top.

I like little boxes like these because they are a useful and a mystery at the same time!
Nice job Tom, I may copy it!

I have been wanting to try and make one of those sliding dovetail boxes. I like how you made yours with curves. Nice job!
