Brick pattern cutting board

This is probably my favourite of the cutting boards I’ve made. The brick is Poculi, the ‘mortar’ is maple. All end grain, including the mortar pieces. I’ve heard that some people do edge grain for the mortar – now I understand why lol. Those thin pieces really wanted to curl as the glue dried. Since I decided I would only do end grain cutting boards, I will do it again, but I’ll be more prepared to eliminate the curling.

I haven’t tried a cutting board yet…. generally I just don;t find them all that interesting…. BUT THEN… there are exceptions…. I really like what you did…. gotta try not to forget it !

Thanks. If I remember right it was about 19” x 12”. Sold it a while ago.

Great board. I haven’t made a brick pattern yet. This is definitely prompting me to give it a try ! Enjoy using it.

Thank you all for the compliments.

I did enjoy doing the brick pattern and I’m doing it again. This time it’s a yellow wood called Movingui. It is pretty hard on the eqipment … killed my table saw. The colour reminds me of the old yellow brick farm houses in the area where I grew up in SW Ontario. I should have all the missing parts for the new saw this week (long story), so I’ll be back at it, finally.

That’s my son’s Giant Schnauzer, he was my buddy while he was young, too big now!
