What a fun build this was! After seeing a few versions of this on etsy I decided to give it a try for my 1 year old nephew.
I made the wheels from Red Oak at 6” X 3/4” on the lathe using the indexing plate to mark the the holes to be drilled. The holes were drilled by hand (Drill Press move to number one on my shopping list now lol) and I used some 3/8” dowel rods for the axles. The cacklers are made for scrap Purple Heart, Utile, Padauk, and some nice looking pallet wood. The frame around the cutter head is Red Oak with connecting to a 1/2” dowel rod that runs up to the Pecan handle. The over all dimensions are 12” wide by 17” long and if I make another one I would probably make it closer to 9” wide, just to cut down on it weight.
Im happy to report that he loved it! I don’t think there was a piece of carpet in the house that wasn’t trimmed down that day!
Thanks for stopping by,
