I was commissioned to build this double flag hat box for a recently promoted Coast Guard Chief. Since he works in law enforcement he wanted it to resemble an ammo crate so that was the look I was “shooting” for. This is made from solid walnut and finished with clear lacquer. The USCG Chiefs anchor on the lid and the Mason emblem inside were done with my CNC machine and the badge on the glass was done with our laser machine. This design took about 40 hours start to finish . The customer was very happy with the end result.

Nice work (again)
Now begs a couple of questions:-
1. What does a Special Agent in the coast Guard and a Mason have in common
2.What does one actually put in Double Flag Hat box that looks like an ammo box with a window?

Two Flags? a Hat or ammo?

3. Where did you get all the emblishments from?

It sure beats a olive drab one with rope handles.

Wait there is more, ... 40 hours of excellent work so what does it sell for? ...if thats an OK question
I can understand why The customer was very happy with the end result.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Rob here are some answers to your questions:
1. I specialize in customized woodwork and have done so for over 20 years. I have built countless unique items like this over the years. I don’t know this persons history so from my perspective, in this case, a Special Agent in the Coast Guard and a Mason have the desire to hire me to build this in common.

2. Military Hat Boxes are designed to hold and display the Dress Uniform Combination Cover (Hat). Hat boxes are part of a long standing tradition. They are usually built as part of the right of passage Navy and Coast Guard personnel go through when promoted to Chief Petty Officer.

3. Embellishments:
Challenge Coins were provided by the customer.
Artwork on glass is a vectorized file of the Special Agent badge.
USCG Chiefs Anchor and Mason Emblems are 3D Aspire files purchased from CNC Military Emblems.

4. The price varies for each hatbox. I have a pricing sheet designed like a menu. There is a base price for a plain box and then the customer can select from things like custom shape, 3D artwork, laser work, flags, wood type, etc… The customer basically designs their own hat box and I build it to order.
