I have friends in HIGH places. A couple months ago I started conversing with Sasha in Russia. I ended up sending him a couple of my bowls with the knowledge that he would not reciprocate because shipping was so expensive for him.
I have to say that the USPS surprised the heck out of me with a paultry $23.00 fee to mail 2 bowls to him. On top of the more than fair mailing cost, it was delivered to him in 10 day form the day I mailed it. As well, I was able to track it right to his ‘post office’
Upon receiving my bowls he sent me some pictures as well as a couple videos of him and his family. Shortly thereafter he sent me 6 pictures of some of his projects he had on hand and told me to select anything I wanted and he would mail it to me.
Well, that’s not a decision for me alone so I “allowed” my wife to help make that decision. We decided on one of the jewelry boxes but didn’t specify.
In a couple day he said he had mailed the package and sent me the customs tracking number. All went well for several days until we got a message that it had been prosessed thru a customs facility in Russia. It seemed that everything stalled at that point (Dec.7, 2018) because we waited, kept checking the tracking number and it said it had been processed thru the facility.
Sasha and I both gave up and decided that the package had been stolen after it went thru customs. However, on December 30th we both got an emeil from USPS saying that the package had arrived in New York. It then went to Jamaica, N.Y. International Dist. Center. Now it was all down hill, Wickliffe, Ohio, Canton, Ohio, Malvern, Ohio and then me standing at the counter in the Post Office with the clerk and PostMaster watching me open the package. They were as excited to get it as I was.
So anyway, it’s here and I love it. My pictures do not do it justice as it is so much nicer realtime .
Almost forgot, the body of the box is walnut, the lid is repurposed ash with pine accent stripes.
Thanks Sasha and Happy New Year to you and your family

Tom, Anthony, ken, Rob, swift
Thanks for looking and yes Sasha does do nice work. The scallops on the bottom of the box were cut with a long wire electrified with a large transformer with a weight on the dangling end and a hose and gloves to hold it. He just pulls the wire up and down by hand all the while guiding it along a pre marked line. He sent me a video showing how it’s done – really neat

Oh I am a dummy!

Now the topic of scallops, its one I have been trying to get the “good Oil” for some time.
stefanG has been most helpfull
I now see you have teased me by referencing “Scallops on the bottom but no picture! (your such a meanie!)... then to really rub it in there is a reference to a “really neat” non existent video !!! boo hiss. I am gunna go play my Garth CD!! ...and maybe have a little cry!

Thanks,
I’ll trade projects nearly anywhere and in several instances I just send them a bowl regardless. It seems shipping and mailing from Europe and Asia is REALLY expensive.

Thanks bushmaster

I forgot to mention in the original listing that the lid is repurposed ash with a walnut strip accented with pine.
Also Sasha made a keepsake coin and sent it with the box
