Napoli Tea Box

I had a customer order this a few weeks before Christmas. His girlfriend is flying in from Napol and he wanted to impress her with a special gift. She loves to drink tea so he asked me to come up with a unique and ornate Tea Box. This is made from Zebra Wood and Wenge. The roses were carved with my CNC machine and my wife laser etched the glass with the word Tea written in Napoli. Wenge was inlaid behind the glass to help the laser work to stand out. I used solid brass Brusso hinges designed to stop at 90 degrees so the lid would stay open when selecting the tea. I finished the box with a food safe mineral oil and hand buffed the outside with a furniture paste wax to preserve the wood and add a nice sheen. This is the first project I have done using Zebra Wood and Wenge. While they are somewhat expensive compared to the Oak and Cherry I normally buy I think the two woods complement each other very well. I can foresee some custom jewelry boxes for my daughters made from this material in the future. Thanks for looking. Happy New Year!!
