My wife found this bankers chair at a thrift shop for $40. Granted she bought it for me last Christmas and I just got around to refinishing it this Christmas.

I really do love these old chairs, maybe it’s the old metal swivel/rocking hardware , or maybe it’s the beauty and simplicity of the wood, or maybe it’s because refurbishing one was the last project I got to work on with my Dad.

Regardless, I took the whole thing apart, used a little citristrip, did a little sanding, reassembled it, and then stained and did a hand rubbed poly.

I have a few more pics of it on my blog:

Brian that is a remarkable transformation, thanks for the blog link to enable one to see it’s stages.

I think maybe it’s a combination of all the maybe’s in total that made this so dear to you, and you have the knowledge it is a lasting memorial to your Dad.

Thank you for allowing us to share in it.

Great Job on this. I have one that needs to have the finish put on. Dumpster find years ago, I may just have to do it this weekend. I am replacing the old wheels with the Rockler They work great. Have them on my claw foot dinning table and it makes it easy to move around in the small dining area. Dan
