My wife found this bankers chair at a thrift shop for $40. Granted she bought it for me last Christmas and I just got around to refinishing it this Christmas.
I really do love these old chairs, maybe it’s the old metal swivel/rocking hardware , or maybe it’s the beauty and simplicity of the wood, or maybe it’s because refurbishing one was the last project I got to work on with my Dad.
Regardless, I took the whole thing apart, used a little citristrip, did a little sanding, reassembled it, and then stained and did a hand rubbed poly.
I have a few more pics of it on my blog: http://famousartisan.com/refinished-oak-bankers-chair/

Brian that is a remarkable transformation, thanks for the blog link to enable one to see it’s stages.
I think maybe it’s a combination of all the maybe’s in total that made this so dear to you, and you have the knowledge it is a lasting memorial to your Dad.
Thank you for allowing us to share in it.

Great Job on this. I have one that needs to have the finish put on. Dumpster find years ago, I may just have to do it this weekend. I am replacing the old wheels with the Rockler https://www.rockler.com/plate-or-socket-mount-ball-casters They work great. Have them on my claw foot dinning table and it makes it easy to move around in the small dining area. Dan
