I was looking forward to my brother opening the box to find a slab of wood with a hole in it. He looked at me and said “no, don’t tell me….” Ten or so minutes later he gave up and asked me what it was. I took him out in the kitchen and stuck a wine bottle in it, and he was blown away! That was very fun. This was a slab I cut from a piece of firewood (from a backyard tree) that I just could not toss on the fire, and I’m glad I didn’t—came out beautiful with only boiled linseed oil for a finish. (I also really liked the look of the shavings from the forstner bit—what colors!)

First bandsaw box, meh. Grain going the wrong way, but I enjoyed making it. Added a small walnut button for a handle.

Ornament turned from a white spruce branch, also from the backyard, with a few beads added to finish off the point.

Very nice. I like making wooden gifts for folks for Xmas. Gotta love wine bottle balancers.
