Mini Display Case

My father was quite the ball player in his youth. Later in my fathers life, his pastor found out about this and wanted my father to pitch a game. He did the best he could at 80 and was awarded this ball. A year later he passed. I stumbled across this ball in my fathers things and decided to make a glass display case in my fathers honor.

The case is made of some cherry I had laying around the shop. It’s constructed of a series of half laps clued at the joints. The bottom is joined by a dado all around it’s edge to fit into a slot to hold the bottom in place. I made a “cup” on my lathe to hold the ball in place. I have applied several coats of Minwax aerosol clear lacquer on the display case to give it a nice finish and of course I put my signature penny on the bottom. It turned out better than I had expected. I only wish I could have made this for my father when he was alive. He would have enjoyed it. Thanks for looking.

That’s a very nice looking display box. Great tribute too.
