Live edge coffee table

I had purchased the live edge slab about 3 years ago. At the time, I was thinking of using it for a sofa table. I could never think of what I wanted for a base. Late summer, I decided to make a coffee table instead and the base idea came easily. Could also be a bench. It’s far from perfect and I learned a lot and would do a couple things differently if I do something similar.

I used a water-based clear finish. I’m not happy with that part and may put on an oil-based finish when I can do it in the shop instead of it the house.

Other than that, I’m happy with it.

I’d be damned proud of it.

If you’re interested in what the slab looked like to start with, you can find photos here http://lumberjocks.com/topics/130858

Yes this is a great table. Keep making stuff and have fun… I am never happy with my finishes. I think I am not really good at that part of wood working yet. They are acceptable but not glorious.

Have your say...
