Here’s a few boxes that I never got around to posting because they fell a little short of my expectations. But I figured I’d put them out to LJ’s and see what kind of comments and suggestions you all might have.
The larger black and white box had a good concept but lacked in execution. In hindsight I think a more flowing scalloped pattern would have been better.

The star box I posted prior to this project was actually the inner plug cut out of this one…never throw anything away!
The two walled walnut box was my try at Michael Cullen’s awesomeness. My disappointments were in the poor scoop shapes and the lack or extended flair on the ends. It does have a pretty cool leather look to it though so maybe I’ll get around to flocking the inside. I think I’ll give this one another try when the right wood shows up in my shop.
Thanks for looking and great work by everyone posting such interesting projects.

Tom, I like the walnut one. It does have a leathery look to it. The black and white one, I agree with you – maybe a more flowing carving design. Nevertheless, you are talented at this. How many hours do you spend on the carving part? I’m like you – never throw anything away either :)

Kim, your signature says it all…gotta just keep trying!
My carving times vary depending on how many thumbs I’m working with on any given day but I’d say somewhere between 1 to 3 hours.
The walnut box was actually my first try at this style of box making…made it almost a year ago and have been using it as my change holder.

Oh yes the most attractive scalloping again!
Still not able to find any information on the tools required or the methods used to produce the effect.
All very exceptonally artistic work Tom.
Now another question, the bowl of fruit is it carved or the real McCoy?
Plus I havent seen Charlie Brown around for a while !!
