My daughter rides horses and needs an armoire to keep her saddle, tack, boots, and various sundry items. Most of the armoires at the barns we’ve been at are simple boxes with crap all over the place and no design at all.
Therefore, because I love my daughter and wanted to show off, I build this tack box. 84” x 42” x 30” with sliding components for ease of access and lots of space.
Cheap birch plywood (should have bought better quality) and spruce (OK, 2×4s, but spruce sounds better, doesn’t it?) and some neat brass tack hooks screwed into canary wood.

I love this! Will the slide rails on the saddle racks support a western saddle?

You must love your daughter a lot. That’s the best tack box I’ve ever seen.

@Terri – yes. I’m not sure what size drawer slides I used but they’re easily adapted for 100 lb. drawer slides. I also put a steel support under the saddle racks. I’m not sure of the weight load but I’m pretty sure they’re over 100 lbs., too. Got ‘em at Home Depot.
@ AtomJack – yes, I surely do. You have no idea. She’s wonderful. I’m very blessed.

@RiverGirl – I did a search for ‘tack hooks’ on the net and kept searching until I found something I liked. There are a number of sellers that have these. I think they were about $10 each. I have four or five more at home that I don’t need. Do you need some?

As a long-time horsewoman and sometimes professional trainer, I’d LOVE to have a tackbox like this. I’m keeping this on file so I can build myself one someday! Thank you for sharing. The thought you put in to building something really useful for your daughter certainly shows.
