Well that’s it. This is my official cry for help.
I’ve got it.
I’ve got the turning bug.
It started with a few pens after school, which didn’t seem like a big deal. And now I can’t help the fact that its escalating to other projects like this. I don’t show interest in furniture building like I used to, I’m leaving other projects undone just to get some time on the lathe, and now I’m using all those exotic turning blanks (like purpleheart) that I’ve seen others use and vowed to myself I’d never touch.
It’s hard to describe what led me to this point. Perhaps it was the failed attempts at turning that made the allure that much more romantic. Perhaps it was the new variable speed function on our new lathes, or the Carbide tipped turning tools that make turning seem so easy.
Whatever it was, here I am. I wouldn’t say I’ve hit rock bottom yet, but please, pray for me during this time of hardship. I’ve realized I now have a problem, which they say is the first step. Learning to live with it, that’s the hard part.

Hello, my name is Tooch…..........and …........I’m a turner.
Hello Tooch!
It’s been 12 hours since i’ve picked up a skew chisel. But….....I love the feel of it…....... I need help.
Welcome to the club, my friend. There is no cure for the disease – just treatment.
The stopper/opener looks great – nicely balanced and proportioned. LMK when you start buying resin by the gallon. ;-)
Cheers!

Resin by the gallon… Now that sounds like a good idea, I never thought of that!

I like that combo stopper, opener. I didn’t know they had a kit like that. Nice job.
This project will not stop you from working on the lathe, it will only open up new opportunities. As Jim said, glad to have you.

Tooch, sorry to hear you have turned to the dark side. When the affliction has run its course, I recommend making boxes as a half way step to recovery. Drinking plenty of liquids helps.
