Have a Grandson who needs a better coffee table in his apartment…at least better than the IKEA thing he has now.

He wanted me to make one for a Christmas Present….

So..Grandpa went out and got a bit of Ash lumber, and cobbled up a table..
Finish is MinWax Dark Walnut ( his choice, BTW) and a coat or two of Clear Gloss Poly…
Top of the table is 39-1/2” long…by 16-3/4” wide. Table stands 18” tall.

Bread board ends use a sliding dovetail joint. Small drawer uses hand cut finger joints. Legs are tapered on the two inside faces. The also have a bead detail down the outside corner. Top has a cove detail. Aprons also have a bead detail, along the bottom edge.
Top was a 3 board glue-up..boards were cut from the same 10’ plank. Friend of mine dropped an Ash tree a few years ago, and had it milled down….this lumber supplied all the parts…may go back and buy some more, sometime. There is a blog for more details. Only thing left, is to figure out how to wrap this…

Thanks for looking in..

Very nice work mate. I love it when the timber has a story too.

Ash has been getting harder to get in our parts since the Chinese took a liking to it.

Nice work bandit.

I’ve been reading your excellent blogs. It’s always nice to see the finished project. You make some fine looking hand built (hand tools mostly) furniture. Looking forward to your next project.

Honestly, if that isn’t one of the nicest gifts that you could ever give to your grandkids! I hope that he really appreciated the effort that you went to to make it for him – it looks really great! Like a classic piece that’s got some real stories and value behind it! He had better appreciate it I think!
