A life long buddy asked me if I’d build a baby bed for his only child’s first baby. Needless to say, I was honored to do it. So I asked ALOT of questions and I’m pretty sure his daughter thought I was the head engineer on the crazy train. I build everything to suite the person using it. The daughter is 4’ 11” tall, or as I like to say, she is 5’ 4” – 5” so had to make the front and sides short enough that she could pick the baby up and put him to bed, comfortably, without needing a milk crate to stand on. The Son n law is 6’ 3” so there was not really any way to accommodate him on baby bed front and side height. Gotta keep mama happy and since she is the primary care giver, baby bed built to suit her being vertically challenged.

When it’s time to move baby from baby bed, to a toddler bed, they just remove the front/foot board, and put on the toddler front, which is not pictured. The toddler front allows little man to get in and out of bed on the right front, but has matching slats and rails, so he can’t roll out of bed while sleeping or playing. When little man out grows the toddle bed, the toddler front and sides come off, put the bed rails on and the baby bed front/foot board back on and BAM!!! Full size bed. I did have my buddy come help do a bit of painting, so he would “Have some skin in the game.” I’m sure his daughter and grandson will be proud that he helped build the bed. I used my new paint sprayer to paint it, and was very pleased with the way it turned out. My buddy was thrilled when he seen it finished and his daughter and the rest of the family were “Absolutely blown away” with it. I made a solid bottom that goes under the mattress, for safety of baby. There is no way he can get a leg or arm hung and get hurt. Also the bottom is adjustable. This bed is built to withstand a couple of 400 lbs wrasslers having their own Wrestlemania. I used oak for all the framing and weight bearing pieces. The panels were made using pine and everything else is made from maple. Thank you for looking

Absolutely fantastic work. You have outdone yourself with this one, even with painted wood (I usually like the wood to show through). It should be passed on down to his kids in the future.

It came out beautifully from design to execution. Good thing you had weather cooperation so you could spray it outside… Looks like there was a little bit of over spray!
