Open segmented oriental bowl turned from Radermachera ( China Doll ) 150 mm in diameter x 150 mm high. The oriental look can be varied a lot.

Hi, They look great! How do you prevent tear out on the open segmented portion?

Oni, I minimized the tear out on the trailing edge by using sharp tools, fairly high turning speed and the grain running in the right direction.

I like these turnings Keith, I haven’t seen this style before. How does it get the name Oriental?

John, I have given it the Oriental name simply by open segmented pattern which has the Oriental look. You can vary this pattern in so many ways.
