My wood buddy and I designed and built a trundle bed for his grand kids when they visit. The design is our interpretation of the Greene & Greene style.

The side aprons and bottoms are Birch plywood while Alder is used for the head and foot sections. The construction joinery consisted of dowels fot the headboard and foot board. The Kreg system and metal 90 degree angle brackets fastened the Birch plywood aprons together.

The brackets attached not only the mattress box aprons but the headboard and footboard units. 1/4-20 Hex Head bolts go through the angle brackets and thread into the inserts installed in each leg. This connection system allowed the trundle bed sections to be knocked down and carried upstairs, then reassembled. Levelers with Nylon were installed on the bottom end of each leg as the home is around 100 years old.

Minwax conditioner and stain were part of the of the coloring then three coats of Vinyl lacquer were sprayed.
