Project Information
We bought a condo as a second home and an inexpensive housing option for our college-student grandson. Originally I considered it more or less "move-in ready", but after my wife and grandson discussed the plan, I wound up with a book of projects. We basically remodeled the entire unit, but the two biggest projects assigned to me were were installation of crown moulding throughout, and gutting/rebuilding the kitchen.
There was no crown moulding at all in the unit, so that was just a matter of going at it one room at a time. Most inside corners were coped; just looking at the first cope I did and comparing it to the last one is ample proof of the value of practice!
The kitchen had 20-yr old big-box store cabinets with a laminate countertop and typical rental-unit appliances. We decided to just gut everything. I built new cabinets with Shaker-style doors, a lazy-susan in the lower cabinet corner and a bifold door to give free access to the upper corner cabinet, 3 cm granite countertop, and new stainless steel appliances.
