I tapered this one on all 4 sides and carved a scalloped design with natural “ribs” separating the pattern. Milk paint on the sides, interior and bottom of the lid. I cut a wave pattern on the top and finished with shellac and wax.

As always, thanks for looking and I appreciate all comments and suggestions.

Unique box, interesting to look at and reminds me of a nice dessert.

It does look good enough to eat Tom! Your textures are great and I like that cool hammer. Looks a lot like one I got in a swap…

First thing my local woodworking friends said was it looked like a piece of cake. Not exactly was I was aiming for but I guess it’s a consensus the Cake box it is.

Mike, I hope you’re enjoying the mallet…this one is a bit clunky but so isn’t my carving!

Tom,

I still haven’t taken any of my LJ swap stuff out to the shop yet. I’m still showing it off! I will use that mallet one of these days, I promise!

Wow. I really like the texture and the smooth layers you achieved. Looks amazing.

Tom, this is interesting and different. Creative and I agree naming it ‘Cake Box’. What kind of wood – cherry? I like the shaped top, too. Also like the table it sets on :)

Kim, the wood is some red birch I had…it has very nice grain and color to it and carved ok.
The table I made awhile ago…ambrosia maple.

Thanks

Quite nice work Tom, and I have to go with the crowd on the Cake Box!
