Project Information

Here are three chip carved plates done in sycamore wood. The wood was from a large log which was cut into slabs with a chainsaw and allowed to dry for a year. Then rough rounds were bandsawed from the slabs and dried a while more. The plate blanks were turned on a lathe and the indexing head was used to divide the circle into segments. Finally the designs, mostly from Wayne Barton, were drawn on the blanks and chip carved. Note the variation in the sycamore color.
