This is a two sided transformation pole. One side is mother earth holding a wand with an eagle head carved out of moose antler. The back of her head is the head of an eagle ,and the back of her robe is a jumping salmon. This is my way of showing the connection of all things in nature. The fun part of this carving is that from either side you can’t tell that it has another carving on the other side. This is a piece of ancient red cedar driftwood I found on an island about 10 miles from juneau alaska. The wood had obvious signs that it had been through a fire while still standing plus it had a few rusted off spikes imbedded in mother earth’s shoulder. If this piece of wood could talk I think it would be a great story. I did drill a hole in the carved rocks under mother so I could tell my part of her story and keep it with her.I carved a plug for the hole to look like a rock so her story would be safe. The head of mother and the eagle is a seperate piece of wood from the rest of the totem and is attached with two brass rods. The whole thing is a little over six ft.
