Believe it or not, this is a commissioned piece!

This will serve as the award for a Chili Cook-off, thus the reason for the “Bio-Hazard” sign scroll-cut into the bowl of the spoon. ;-)

The spoon is a single, solid piece of Cherry, measures 2 Feet long and is over an inch thick. I used one of my wooden serving spoons as a guide and it looks just like it – only a LOT bigger!

I started with the band saw, then an angle grinder, three different sanders and then once the shape was perfect moved on to the scroll saw for the image in the ladle.

Since it just might be used to stir food in the future, I used a food-grade oil to seal and darken the wood.

This should darken very nicely over time – even with the occasional chili stain on it! :-)

Oh yeah – I get to go to the cook-off / beer tasting to deliver the award this weekend, which is probably the best part!

Well, if I had one like that, it won’t be touching any chili; it would be hangind on my kitchen wall.

Nice work.

That is so cool. The bio-hazard logo in the spoon.
Nice clean circles are hard to pull off on a scroll saw. You did a great job.

Great spoon! I know my dad’s cooking could have used that warning for everything he cooked.

IT LOOKS LIKE CROP CIRCLES, ALIENS MAYBE? JUST KINDDING, AMAZING WORK. LOVE THE SHAPE AND BIO HAZARD THEME FOR A CHILI COOK OFF, HOW APPROPRIATE.

Nice, you got a commission! I can see the reflectiveness of the oil and it looks nice, ill try it next time. I hate stains, love natural wood colors. Thanks for the message! Nice project!
