My wife and I were/are in desperate need of a bedroom suite, so I figured that would be the perfect excuse to head to the shop. I wanted to build a nice mission style set but needed something asap. Since I haven’t done alot of mortise/tenon work and am pretty slow at it, I decided to start out building a chest-of-drawers similar to the one I built my son a few months ago. Well, I say similar, it’s really the same plan except different trim, stain and hardware. Since I have built one of these already, it was pretty simple and much quicker. I used my new Kreg pocket-hole jig for the face frame (much quicker than the mortise and tenon on my sons). The case is solid red oak with birch ply drawers, stained with red mahogany and topped of with satin polyurethane. The wife was very pleased with this one so thats always a good thing. Now, I just have to find time to make the mirror dresser and nightstands.
