Cherry Top Bedside Table

Been months since I completed a project. A relative recently needed a bedside table and there was a cherry-top black-base theme in the apartment. I built this simple poplar and plywood base with a combination of open shelves, a drawer, and a door and added a stained cherry top. The construction is nothing special, rabbet joints for the drawer box, simple dado cuts for the vertical pieces and simple trim. The trim on door and drawer fronts is actually just glued on (not real stiles and rails). On the base I used two coats of oil-based sealer-primer and two coats of oil-based enamel paint (first coast rolled, second coat sprayed). The top was stained a mix to match other furniture, I had to use pre-stain after the first coat came out splotchy. I added a couple coats of hand rubbed Poly for protection. Note the Maple root valet from another post on the nightstand in a couple of the pictures. I’ve got a list of other projects waiting completion and it’s good to be smelling sawdust again !
