bunk bed from 2X lumber

I used plans from Mathias’ website to make bunkbeds from 2X Douglas fir from the big orange store. I bought 2 X 8’s & 2 X 10’s, rough cut the pieces oversize and let them sit for a couple of weeks to dry out a bit more. Then I ran them through the jointer & planer for size. The side rails are capped with walnut only because I cut one of them too short and didn’t have any more material so I cut them all short and dressed them up to get the right length. I used walnut plugs to cover screw holes also. Finished with a couple coats of semi-gloss poly.

When you consider the short life of childrens furniture this seems like a great approach!

Looks nice. I have seen that on MW’S site. I still haven’t built a bunkbed.

-- I intended to be a woodworker, but turned into a tool and lumber collector.
