Made this chess board and case for the pieces with my son. Glued up 2”X2” square strips of hard maple and bubinga and also used it for the case. Danish oil is the finish and is very user-friendly, perfect for kids doing the finishing rather than top coats that you have to be very careful with. The pieces were purchased and I reused the foam protection that they came in for the inside of the case. This is a relatively easy project that is good for teaching young ones our passion…......pass on your knowledge to the next generation of woodworkers!!!!!

Very nice job! Good to see a young one learning the game. I love chess but finding someone to play is getting harder and harder.

Beautiful work with great choice of lumber. Cool idea having the kids finish it with Danish oil.
