I built this years ago but never posted the final product. These dovetails where cut with a hand saw (with a guide) and chiseled out. I’m buying a 24 inch Leigh dovetail jig soon. Going to build a few double dovetail chests and try to sell them online. The wood both Purple Heart and satin came in 23 inch widths. So there is no joinery making them this wide.

WOW what a contrast. It’s a shame more species aren’t easily gotten in that kind of width, it does wonders for the look.

Thanks for posting, and good luck with your aspiring business.

What a beautiful looking chest! I Love the look of light wood against the dark wood. And the hand cut dovetails are great looking!

Beautiful and love the combination/contrast. I love my 24” leigh jig. Yours will be new and have all the new design/bells & whistles. I’m sure you will love it, it’s versatility and ease of use. You are talented and can hand cut your dovetails (me, not quite!) but if you need to make repetitive pieces in a timely manner, you will like it even more. Again, beautiful project and it will get prettier over time!

Thanks guys! My jig is coming tomorrow and I’m going to a great exotic hardwood store. Needs to be 21 inches wide. Doing double dovetails like in this photo.
