A relatively simple Cherry Box. The shape of this box is between a square and a circle. Dome shaped lift off lid. I have made several similar boxes using different wood types. Finished with shellac, rub on poly and a thin coat of wax.
Thanks for looking.

A real eye catcher. Shape and finish are to my liking. My guess is interior at least was done on CNC or a router with template. If not you have some real skill carving interior.

Jim and Socrbent – I’ve always been interested in shapes derived from mathematics and the super ellipsoid is one such shape that I thought would make a nice box. I used a CAD program to implement the super ellipsoid and then used my CNC to actually cut the cherry. I’m thinking about making a few small changes to the model and create a series of boxes all related to the original shape.

Very nice little box. No sharp corners angle or visible joints. I like your little box a lot. Well done sir.

Nice box Roger. The grain on that lid is impressive, and with the shape, it’s maybe simple to you, but it’s not your average little box.

Thanks for posting.

Roger, that is really neat. I’m not gonna ask how you did it ‘cause I wouldn’t understand anyway

A really fantastic shape right out of the work by Gabriel Lamé, the Lamé curve!
Did you actually use the Lamé curve?
Similar to the Super egg developed by Piet Hein, the Danish scientist.

Another gem, Roger. You selected the perfect piece of cherry, the way it rolls over the lid. Whomever the recipient is will hopefully appreciate the shape, I certainly learned something new today :)
