Mini ‘leg-style’ vise for work

I’ve wanted a small vise at work at the level of my bench top instead of the big blue machinist’s vise that I have access to. After thinking it over for some months, I happened upon a nice maple board. I designed the vise Ccording to what I could get out of the board and ended up on a sort of foreshortened leg vise. All the parts, save the knob and threaded rod came from that one bosrd which was salvaged from a trashed changing table.

I opted for a roundish knob instead of a sliding handle because I don’t think I’ll need to really crank down on anything. That, and I wanted the design to remain pretty compact. I kept as much of the original finish on the wood as I could and put linseed oil on the cut edges. I also lined the jaws with cork to avoid damaging anything important since I’m using this to repair violins and such.
