Keepsake Box

My wife wanted to give her friend a keepsake box that would display some of the friends mothers semiprecious jewelry. My wife designed the box with two double pane windows that she would paint and glue in the stones. I made T track to use as frames to hold the glass. Mitered U channel holds the double pane glass to form the lid. I knew from the git go the lid had to be made to the exact size and square to match the bottom box. There would be no sanding or planing the lid once it was glued up. I did not want to take the chance of breaking the glass. To keep it all square I made a tight fitting sleeve to hold the box and lid and a frame to hold the lid for glue up. Once glued together the lid was gently pushed into the sleeve on top of the box. Kind of like squeezing a ringed piston into a engine block. The lid dried nice and square to the box. The box is made from walnut and has a oil and wax finish. The friend liked the box. Thanks for looking.

Great work Danny boy. Did you model for those baby tenons?
