Over the period of a year I make quite a few walking sticks and canes. Every once in a great while I find that the wood tells me what to do. This was the case with this Mountain Laurel root I dug last fall. It hung half finished for months as I did not know what to do with it. Then it hit me and within a week or two it was done. Mostly power carved, this is a hard wood. Watered down acrylic paints, mixed as I went along for the effect. Semi gloss rattle can finish.

Ummm, you do realize it’s a good thing it’s 2018. If you had been waving that thing around in Salem Mass in 1692/93 you might have gotten too much attention because of it.

JK I like it, kinda edgy depending on who you run around with, but it certainly catches they eye.

Thanks for posting.

I’ll second that Gr8hunter!!!
Kinda scary but very interesting.
It’s always interesting when the wood tells us where it wants to go.

You’re a clever man Doug with the carving sir, but way too young for a stick of your own yet!
