My wife was looking for a headboard for our 2nd bedroom. She wanted something that would allow her to paint it and give it a sort of beachy look. She tried a few times at the local Habitat for Humanity re-store and online but was unable to find anything that she had in mind. I really hadn’t thought about making one until one of our neighbors suggested to her to have me make one. So I turned to Lumberjocks for inspiration and this is what I came up with. Didn’t have time to make a trip to my usual place for wood so it was a quick trip to the big box store for some pine. Since it was getting painted it didn’t have to be completely knot free but I did my best to find pieces that were as clear as possible. It’s simply two frames like the last picture which sandwich the slats. The slats were just ripped to size with a chamfer along each long edge and dropped into place. My wife painted the headboard with two coats of white and no primer. She was trying to keep it somewhat distressed looking. The top was capped with a piece of maple we found that she liked. Drilled a couple of holes in the legs and attached with nuts and bolts. The headboard matches a dresser that’s painted similarly, white bottom natural top. Needless to say she is very happy and I thought this was a pretty good effort for a one weekend project.
